Banquet in Celebration of the 45th Anniversary of School of Journalism and Communication, CUHK
Who's Who Party
Over 250 teachers, alumni and students gathered at the celebrative banquet of the 45th Anniversary of School of Journalism and Communication of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The event was held on 29 October 2010 at the Penthouse of Hang Seng Bank.
School Director Prof. Clement So officiated at the opening ceremony: "Tonight is an old friends' gathering. We find a lot of benevolent faces. For example, graduates of 1968 and 1969, Prof. Tin-wai Leung, Mr Ng Ming Lam and Mr Poon Jim Tat are here. Thank you for coming. In past 45 years, our School has been nurturing many talents in the journalism, public relations and advertising fields in Hong Kong. Many of our graduates are now occupying key positions in these industries. We are very proud of their preeminence."
"Last but not least, our School would like to thank Prof. Timothy Yu who was School's Department Head back in the 1970s. He cannot attend the dinner tonight but he presents a magnificent 15-pound birthday cake to celebrate the occasion."
The banquet was a who's who party. The Alumni Association of the School elected its new Executive Committee for 2011-2015 during the dinner. Mr Richard Tsang Lap Ki, Chairman and Managing Director of Strategic Public Relations Group Ltd, was elected as the Chairperson. Ms. Lavender Cheung Wang Yim, Senior Media Advisor of Hospital Authority, and Mr Lau Kwok Yip, Assistant Chief Editor of Headline Daily, were elected as vice-chairpersons (Internal and External Affairs). The office period will start in January 2011.
The School extolled the proven contribution of Alumni Association Executive Committee of 2006-2010. Under strong leadership of Chairperson, Mr Walter Cheung, Vice-chairpersons, Mr Wing-hung Lo and Ms Fanny Wong, and Treasurer, Miss Violet Lam, the Association provided ample opportunities for alumni to gather by organizing several landmark events. The events included The 3rd and 4th Chinese University Journalism Award, Mr Henry Tang's Dinner and an alumni trip to Cathay City. The activities gained extensive media attention and it also acted like glues that hold alumni together.
Mr Dick Lee, Former Commissioner of Police of HKSAR, spoke at the 45th Anniversary dinner to share his insights in improving communication strategies of public enterprises.
